Dining Hall Refurbishment

St Edward’s Church of England Academy is a secondary school and sixth form in Romford, and the oldest school in the local area, having been founded in 1710. AJS Construct was appointed to deliver a comprehensive school refurbishment project, transforming the academy’s former indoor swimming pool into a modern dining hall while carrying out a range of associated improvement works to enhance facilities for pupils and staff.

The project included the installation of a structural steel and timber deck across the existing swimming pool, creating a robust new floor area ready for refurbishment. New flooring was fitted throughout, a purpose-built servery was installed, internal decorations were refreshed and a new fire alarm system was introduced to bring the space up to modern standards.

Alongside the main dining hall conversion, we installed a dedicated sixth form servery and carried out alterations and redecoration works within the existing Art Room. Working closely with the client, the project was carefully planned and delivered to create a bright, practical and welcoming environment that better supports the needs of both pupils and staff. The completed works successfully transformed an underused area into a high-quality dining facility, while also improving teaching and learning spaces elsewhere within the school.
