AJS undertook the refurbishment of an existing chapel building within the grounds of CCT conference centre in High Leigh, Hoddesdon. The site was situated in front of the main entrance in a very prominent position, and the centre remained open for both conferences and residential stays. We hand-picked personnel to ensure that every person visitors met was friendly, approachable and full of enthusiasm for the project.
The chapel building was originally constructed in 1924, and since that time various works had been undertaken erecting partitions, ceilings and wall linings to conceal the original timber framed structure.
Our brief was to strip out everything that had been installed to get back to the original structure. Then, clean up the timber frame and brick infill panels with an ultra-mild abrasive blasting system and to finish, install new lighting to accentuate the character of the building.
Structurally, the works involved sympathetic timber repairs as well as knocking through to a newly built steel-framed extension, housing the catering, plant room and toilet facilities. Externally, we installed a significant area of new planting, block paving and resin-bound gravel surfacing to ensure the landscaping was as high-quality as the new interior.
